A Peking Opera intangible-heritage short, cinematic, oriental aesthetics, warm and restrained. In a traditional troupe's backstage and handcraft workshop, an old master quietly makes Peking Opera headdresses, arranges costumes, and outlines a painted face, the hand details delicate, the silk threads, beadwork, pigments, and embroidery all richly textured. A young apprentice watches attentively beside him, then carefully takes up the tools and completes the small steps under the master's guidance. The master straightens the apprentice's headpiece and adjusts his lapels, as if gently handing over a craft and an emotion into his hands. Finally the young man, fully dressed, stands at the edge of the stage about to go on, faint light illuminating the costume and his profile, the old master quietly watching from behind. The overall mood is quiet, heartfelt, and full of a sense of inheritance, with few subtitles and a few fitting lines of dialogue interspersed.
